Children's Book Review - It's Snowing! It's Snowing!

When I read this particular book to my son just last night, I knew I had to write about it. It's called It's Snowing! It's Snowing!by Jack Prelutsky and illustrated wonderfully by Jeanne Titherington.

It's very well written in rhymes. The writer's ability to rhyme with such ease and not make it sound forced is just great. I was struck by this quality throughout the book.

One little snippet named Shadow Thought goes like this:

The winter sun stays close to me,

it watches where I go,

and my shadow is the shadow

of a giant on the snow.

Hopefully, when you read the book with your child, you will appreciate the flow of words as much as the beautiful illustrations.

Mr. Prelutsky lives in New York and has been writing poetic books for children for many years. Some of his other books include: Zoo Doings, Nightmares and It's Halloween.

 It's one of those small things you may do with your kids that has become a tradition. You tuck the kids into their covers and let them choose a book and read them a story. I've always loved the few minutes we spend reading at night right before bed. I started reading to my children when they were just babies and continued reading to them until they were about 8 or 9 years old. When they are not old enough to read themselves they enjoy the animation of having someone read to them and when they are reading on a first and second grade level, we have begun to take turns reading the book...he'd read a page, then me, then him.

I still remember reading to my two oldest boys who are now eighteen and fifteen. They loved the series of books Junie B. Jones  by Barbara Park. Those books are so funny and entertaining, not only for the kids but for me as well. We really had alot of fun reading many of those books in her series.
